Downloading on RomUlation is pretty straight forward, but to make sure it goes as painless as possible
you need to know a few things about how our system. It's not difficult so just give it a read.
We use a point system to prevent download abuse, we host a number of large files so without this system some greedy
users would be downloading several 500MB files at once and satuating the connection.
The cost of files is pretty straight forward, 1 point = 1 MB. So a file that is 82MB would cost 82 points, though a file
that is 54MB will cost 0 points. This is because only files that are larger than 75MB will cost points.
You start out with 500 points credited to your account, should you be in need of more then you will have to use one
of the following ways to gain points:
- Wait. Every night you get 50 points credited to your account.
- Upload Screenshots. Every screenshot you get approved earns you 5 points.
- Become a Premium Member. Premium Members gets 150 points instead of 50 points every night.
- Purchase points. Points cost $5 for 10,000 points, that's around 20 games for the price of a Starbucks coffee.
RomUlation DO support download managers. But our system requires that you use them in a specific way.
DO NOT under any circumstances enable your download manager and then simply click the download link. When you do this
your browser starts the download, your download manager detects that, closes the download and starts it again using
it's own method. While this usually works well for any other site it won't with RomUlation. When you do this it will seem like
you have downloaded the file twice since we can only detect if you have initiated the download, not if you have actually
completed it, so as soon as you start your download it will deduct points from your account. So if you use a download manager
like this then you will lose twice the amount of points as the download costs. Points lost this way will NOT be refunded
regardless of any good excuse you might have, it's stated here plainly why not so just don't do it.
So now that you know how not to do it, here's how you should do it.
Some download managers such as FlashGet can take over the download BEFORE it's started by your browser,
Personally I use FlashGet with the FlashGot Firefox extension, then I hold down ALT while clicking the download link.
That will send the download to FlashGet instead and thus you will not be deducted points twice.
Regard of which manager you decide it must be able to do the following:
- Send a custom referer header.
- Send cookies associated with a domain along with the download request.
(Otherwise you will show as a guest, and guests can't download
- Pre-start takeover, don't let it close the restart the connection.
Please note that for the best of everyone you should limit your download manager to no more than 3 concurrent connections.
Otherwise you're being an ass towards both us and our other users.
Please read the following forum thread about download problems.
We use .rar files for compression instead of .zip files, .rar files have superior compression to .zip files so you will
save downloading time and we will save both space and bandwidth. It's a win/win situation.
If you don't know how to extract rar files then please read the following
forum thread about extracting rar files.
RomUlation does not host emulators, we suggest using
Emulator-Zone.com for downloading emulators.
We do not provide support for emulating ROMS per se, though, we do have a very active and friendly forum
where you can obtain help. Go to the Technical Help section and create a thread there, though you might want to read
the How to ask for help thread and the Common Issues threads before you create a new topic, chances are your answer is in
the Common Issues thread and if not then the How to ask for help thread will help us help you faster. (no pun intended :P)
RomUlation has some features that other ROM sites does not, therefore not everyone is familiar with these, thus we have
decided to do a short introduction of each feature.
RomUlation is a firm believer in user interaction, you are most likely equally knowledgeable in some areas as we are
in others, this diversity of knowledge shared amongst all users makes for an array of information available everyone.
Therefore we highly encourage everyone to help out on the site and on our forum.
RomUlation enables it's users to upload screenshots of games, it would be impossible for the admin team to provide
screenshots for all of the ROMs due to the immense amount of ROMs available. Screenshots must be the size of the actual unit
screen, that means that a GBA screenshot MUST be 240x160 pixels. The specific sizes of all supported systems are listed on
the add screenshots page.
For each approved screenshots we credit your account with 5 points.
To add a screenshot simply navigate to the game you wish to add the screenshot to and click the Add Screenshot
button found below the screenshots. (or the not available image) Here you will be presented with a box where you
can select your image from your harddisk, should you wish to add more then simply Add Another and another box
will appear. (requires javascript enabled)
Please notice and follow the rules specified on the Add Screenshot page in order for your screenshot to not be
removed by a moderator. All images have to be approved before appearing on the site.
RomUlation supports adding tags to pages; a tag is basically just a single word that describes the game, for example if you
were to describe Resident Evil in tags you might add: Zombie, Horror, Dark, Survival. Based on these tags we will then
attempt to find similar games in our database and list those on the page.
It is also possible to browse the list of tags and view all games with a certain tag applied to them.
Comments enable you to communicate your opinion about a game to certain users, if you know a good trick or has criticism
about the game then this is where you can post such comments.
Please be aware that comments ARE NOT for support on how to make it work in an emulator,
comments are necessarily checked by an admin or moderator so requests for support should be posted in the forum.
Failure to do so will result in your comment being deleted and, if repeated excessively, in your account being disabled.
RomUlation has a very active and growing community where users talk about emulation, ROMs and life in general. Our
forum is an excellent place to get information or discuss the latest news about games or world events.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of age, gender, colour or sexual preferences.
